Balazs Rigo
Project Lead

Balazs is incredibly thankful to be given the opportunity to lead such a passionate team of talented students. He loves all things drones and is addicted to that bird-like feeling of freedom you get when flying in FPV. He can't wait for Vulcan to come together so he can take that beautiful aircraft for a spin and hopefully not crash it in the process. 

Oscar Chaudoir
Lead Systems Engineer

Fourth Year Aerospace Engineering student working to make sure that Vulcan can do everything it needs to win SUAS. Works with all teams to make sure that everything integrates together nicely.  Joined the team in 2018, and has previously been Aero Lead and Team Lead, as well as co-leading the concept design stage of Vulcan

Bryony Smith
Project Engineer Consultant

Currently on a Year In Industry at Boeing. Bryony is actively providing expertise and opportunities in the daily operations of Project Hex. In 2021/22 she improved retention rates and project management, secured core funding and a flying site, as well as promoted a healthy working culture.

Josh Gilmour
Director of Aerostructures

Josh joined the team in 2020 on the Aerostructures team, and is now a fourth year Mechatronic and Robotic student. He ensures all physical aspects of Hex's various projects run smoothly. With a background in drone building and flying, he brings a passion for all things technological. 

Outside of Hex, he enjoys walking and robotics projects

Toby
Director of Electronics

Toby is a third year Electronic and Electrical Engineering student with over 8 years of drone building and FPV flying experience. He always enjoys a new challenge and coming up with innovative solutions. 

His time outside of hex is filled with caving and working on his car.

Jack Griffin
Manufacturing Consultant

Jack joined the summer team of 2021 bringing his different engineering experiences to the team including at a spark machining workshop producing specialist parts for BMW suppliers. As a self-described DIY enthusiast and amateur mechanic, Project Hex is an exciting new challenge to apply his skillset. Outside of engineering he enjoys football, both playing 6 a side games and supporting Aston Villa. 

Milo Maguire
Manufacturing Lead

Milo is a third year Materials Science and Engineering student looking towards research.  He joined in autumn 2021 looking for materials experience and has been working with everything from plywood to carbon fibre ever since. He's trying his best to avoid splinters.

Away from the project he enjoys walking, tinkering, cooking and archery.

Adam Marszalek
Manufacturing Engineer

1st Year Aerospace Engineer pursuing an MEng degree and a member of the Manufacturing Team for Hex. Adam joined the team in 2022, looking for a lot of professional experience, friends and a friendly, collaborative atmosphere. He has worked on a lot of DIY projects back in Sixth form and during lockdown, has a passion for CAD and design as well as hands on, manual labour. 

Amy Lim Kong
Manufacturing Engineer 

Amy is a third year Materials Science and Engineering student who enjoys hands-on projects and is eager to work with carbon fibre. In her free time, she likes to bake and go on walks.

Christopher Armytage
Manufacturing Engineer - EngTech MIMechE

Chris is a second year Mechanical Engieering student joining the Aerostructures team in 2021. He is an Apprentice trained accredited Engineer with experience in Automated Machine Design and Aerospace Manufacturing. 

Thomas Holsey
Manufacturing Engineer

Tom is a 3rd year mechanical engineering student. He joined the team in summer 2022 and works in the manufacturing team, focusing on carbon fibre layup and processing. He enjoys learning about different manufacturing technologies and how they can be implemented to improve process workflows.

Dominic Drewe

Dominic is a first year aerospace student who joined Hex in 2022. He is building up his machining skills with hopes of developing design skills to help in structures in the future.

Wilfred is a first year studying General Engineering. He enjoys making things, his favourite project being a blacksmiths forge which he made in his back garden over the pandemic. This is why he joined the manufacturing team, as he knew his passion for creating would come in very useful.

Tom Cracknell
Structures Lead

A fourth year Aerospace Engineer, Tom is putting his passion for design into the structures and mechanical side of Vulcan. This mostly involves CAD, lots of CAD. 

His other passions include sustainable enineering, 3D printing, mountain biking and anything else outdoorsy! 

Yong Hyun Chung
Structural Design Engineer

Yong Hyun joined the Project Hex in 2022 as a member of the Aerostructures team. He is a second year Mechanical Engineering student who is passionate about FEA, structural design for maneuverability and computational approaches to dynamic locomotion.  Under Project Hex, he will be working on designing and building the airframe of Vulcan. He is very excited to push Project Hex to new heights with his peers.

Adam recently joined the team in summer 2022, after completing a year in industry focused on finite element analysis over a range of industries. He will be using those skills to aid the structures team.

Structural Design Engineer

James joined the team in 2021, he is a passionate 3rd year aerospace engineering student specialising in aerostructures. Stemming from various projects, he has 4+ years of CAD experience using SolidWorks and Fusion360, including design, simulation and animation. Sharing a keen interest in UAV’s, James is devoted to achieving Project HEX’s current and future goals.

Growing up in Malaysia, Zhe-Wei joined the team in 2022 as a 1st Year Mechanical Engineering student. With a passion for automating workflows through robotics and technology, he holds a wealth of experience in structures, electronics and software engineering departments. In his evenings, he enjoys a quiet cooking session, often running in his neighbourhood while watching the daylight pass.
